Polls? Birdville could care less

NORTH RICHLAND HILLS:  Birdville Hawks Quarterback Justin Martin could care less about his team not getting any love from the polls, as does  Hawks head-coach Jim Skinner who shares the same exact feelings, according to a recent article on this subject written by Jarret Johnson of the Fort-Worth Star-Telegram.

Apparently, it doesn’t change their feelings that they lost rankings in the polls after demolishing a defenseless North Side team, 70-0.   — It is understandable as to why they have these feelings on this, as they  know to play their game and win, which is something that the Hawks can do for the eighth time this season on Thursday night at home vs. also undefeated Saginaw, who much like Birdville has blown every opponent out of  their way.

— The Hawks have already clinched a playoff spot, doing it  under head-coach Jim Skinner, once again for the eighth-season in a row, but something the Hawks haven’t done under Skinner yet is finish a  undefeated  at 10-0,  according to Skinner, himself, the Hawks have finished 9-1  “4 or 5 times before”   (credit again, to Jarret Johnson of the Star-Telegram).

While it takes a team effort to do what Birdville has been able to accomplish with a 7-0 record,  senior quarterback Justin Martin has led the way.   — So far on the season, Martin has thrown for 1,440 yards, completed 70 percent of his passes, Martin has also only thrown an interception twice, through six games.

HAWK INSIDER: News and Notes on Birdville Hawks Varsity Football

  • Birdville Hawks Quarterback Justin Martin has been selected for one of  TXA21 and Children’s Medical Center Player of the Week for his performance in last Thursday night’s game, as the Hawks demolished a defenseless North Side team, Martin was 10-11, with 213 yards passing, and four touchdown passes in the demolition victory.     — Voting ended at noon on Thursday,  (earlier today).
  • Hawks JV running-back Conner Gray told me that he would not be playing in Thursday night’s game on the road at Eastern Hills.
  • A win at Eastern Hills on Thursday night would punch Birdville’s ticket into the post-season.
  • According to some, Birdville’s opponent for the first-round of the playoffs, at least with a win at Eastern Hills would seem to be Byron Nelson.
  • Random Stat:  Hawks quarterback Justin Martin has thrown for 15 touchdown passes, with just one interception so far on the season.
