Leaving for a spiritual retreat

I will be leaving for a  spiritual retreat around 5 today.  I won’t be back until Sunday.  I ask that you would pray for me that I grow spiritually and am able to discern God’s will, not just his will for my life, but his will in general.  I may or may not write about my experience, but I guess the main reason I’m writing this post is so you (whoever reads this) prays for me.  I’m at a point in my life where I’m not 100% sure what God wants me to do.  I know that God doesn’t need support, but he created the stuff that we have like ministry because he loves us.  I guess if there is anything I can set a goal to achieve in this lifetime, it’s to love another.  God bless,

Thomas Brunt.

God is NOT a kill joy

God doesn’t forbid sin, such as sexual sin because he is a killjoy, but because he opposes what kills joy.  (Courtesy John Piper tweet.  We seem to think that God is like a strict parent, well he sort of is, but he’s not trying to stop us from having fun.  It’s quite the opposite, in fact. God knows that we will have a funner time doing things his way, because that’s the original way things were intended to be done.   We have this tendency to take things that God made to be wonderful things and we try to make it something that it’s not.  It’s because we want things our way, but we need to remember we didn’t create the things we have that are meant to connect on a deeper level with God.   This reminds me an experiment gone wrong, and how the creation turns it’s back on the creator.  Sounds familiar and relatable, doesn’t it?

Stop being a Christian.. and focus on discipleship

Greetings, no I didn’t forget about blogging, I’ve just been taking some time off from it, and I haven’t been sure what to write.

I’m not one of those bloggers that will blog up a 1000 word blog post, though I have in the past.. but it’s not something I muster the strength to do every time.  – – Anyway,  I kind of have an idea for a post, here.       I want you, if your a Christian reading this to stop it.  Stop being a Christian.  Apparently, the term “Christian” can mean just about anything or everything you want it to mean. It’s a broad term.   It’s not Christianity that I have a problem with, it’s society.. and what we have made the term out to be.  I think we need to go back to Biblical terms.  When we do  that with this term.. what do we find?  We find the word “Disciple” which according to a calculation I heard 294 times in the Bible.  The word “Christian” only appears three times in the Bible (Acts 11:28, Acts 25:28, and 1 Peter 4:16).   I’m not sure about you, but I’ll stick with the term “Disciple”

I’m interested to know what your plans for discipleship/disciple making are for this year, if you like you can email me them: thesportsguy.brunt2@gmail.com
