Birdville Hawk Freshman Baseball Blog: Before and After Blog

BEFORE

NORTH RICHLAND HILLS: The Hawks will get their first home game of the season on Monday vs. Azle High School, first pitch at 4:30 P.M.  Birdville is coming off an okay tournament performance that led to a consolation championship victory.  Here are some things to watch out for on Monday’s game:

  • Look out for Hawks left-handed pitcher Jordan Martinson. “That kid has some talent” says Sophmore Left fielder Patrick King of the Varsity team.
  • Robert Salazar, who played in a JV tournament over the weekend, and had 4 hits, 2 for home runs total in the tourney. Salazar, was one of the few to hit solid in Monday’s game.

AFTER:

North Richland Hills: The Hornets stung the Hawks in an unexpected loss for the Freshman diamond club of Birdville High School. “I don’t care about this loss, this means nothing, it’s only one game, most times, we will be the better team on the field, now it’s a matter of you all playing that well”, Coach Andrew Davis told his team after the Monday afternoon loss to Azle, who shut out the Hawks, Azle’s pitcher (RJ Simpson) only allowed two hits for the game.  “We made their pitcher look like a superstar, and I really don’t think he’s that good”, added Davis, who seemed despite the loss, still confident in his team.

Here a few other extra notes on the loss:

  • Kenley Moon didn’t play, though he was suited out in a jersey, he didn’t play, he told me he felt “sick”.
  • Robert Salazar ended the loss with an overall 2-4, was probably one of the brighter stars to shine for the Hawks in the loss.
  • Starting Pitcher Trevor Swinney allowed at least 7 hits in the loss to Azle.  ( Game was scoreless heading into the 4th inning.
  • Azle’s Bus broke down on their way to the Hawk’s ballpark, wasn’t late though, this all according to Coach Davis on the bus brake down.
  • Coach Davis on Salazar and potential JV playing throughout the season (before the game): “He’s going to stay here with us, but when the JV will play tournaments, he will play for them”.
