NORTH RICHLAND HILLS:
Birdville is now in the drivers-seat of the district 6-4A title, by defeating previously undefeated Saginaw on Thursday Night at the Birdville Fine Arts Athletic Complex. — The Hawks did this so by going long-drive, after long-drive, as they were able to keep the dangerous Rough-Rider running-game off the field, and it all starts with Birdville Hawks running-back Xavier Turner, who ran for over 134 yards, and scored on three touchdowns on the night. — The Hawks, thanks to a balanced offense, did just enough to take care of an impressive Saginaw team, who was led by running-back Russell Murphy, who matched Birdville running-back Xavier Turner yard-for yard after three quarters of play. When they ran the ball, the Rough-Riders ran it effectively, though, unlike Birdville’s offense who was balanced, and wasn’t consistent enough to keep up with the more consistent, athletic Birdville team.
— The dagger of the game came when Birdville line-backer Samuel Goochy picked off a Saginaw pass, which ended a long drive for the Rough-Riders, this would bring in the offense one last-time for Birdville, who used up all of the rest of the game-clock on that final possession, winning this one by the final-score of 35-14. — With the conference re-alingment that took place, and with Aledo out of the way, Birdville’s road may seem a little easier, as the Hawks, have been competitive for the past-decade with other’s finishing ahead of them, but not this time.
