Texas Rangers news and notes by Thomas Brunt

After losing to the A’s, in a series that ended their run for a third straight AL West title, and after having an AL West lead for 178 days straight, the Rangers will host the Baltimore Orioles on Friday in Arlington, to decide who gets be the wild-card team in the post-season, which means if the Rangers lose, they are out, it’s a do or die situation for both teams.  — The Rangers played some sloppy baseball in their last three series’ of the season, as they did get swept by 2012 AL West Champions: Oakland Athletics, though the same about the level of play of the Rangers could be said about the O’S, as well.

Here is  a small game preview for Friday’s huge game:   ” Baltimore Orioles veteran Joe Saunders will start Friday’s American League wild-card game against the Texas Rangers, manager Buck Showalter announced Thursday,” (Richard Durrett of ESPNDallas.com)

Durrett also reports that Yu Darvish will start for the Rangers in Friday’s AL Wild-Card game.
