Birdville dominates Richland; improves to 2-0 on season

By Birdville High School’s Sports-Editor for the Hawk Newspaper, Thomas Brunt:

NORTH RICHLAND HILLS:  The  Birdville Hawks (2-0) took care of business Friday night vs. rival Richland Rebels(1-1)   at the Birdville Fine Arts Athletic Complex, as the Birdville offense totaled for a so-far season high 455 yards, with Hawks’ quarterback Justin Martin passing for three touchdown-passes, two of which came in the 1rst half, one to Collin Basinger, and the other one to running-back Xavier Turner.   —

With the double-threat that is Birdville Quarterback Justin Martin, and running-back Xavier Turner, the Rebels just couldn’t stop the Hawks on Friday night.  — The Hawks, by half-time had established a big-lead that they would only continue to build on in the second half,  as 24-7 was the halftime score, the Rebels’ only score came in the 1rst quarter on an 8 yard-touchdown run from Richland running-back Ken’Travious Richardson.   For the Hawk’s   Xavier Turner’s return to action, he dominated the first quarter, scoring all but one of  the Hawks touchdown’s in the first quarter.

—  The Richland Rebel defense, though in the second quarter, did seem to tighten up, as they only allowed a single Birdville touchdown.  .   “We all just took a deep breathe and relaxed and just went out there and did what we were coached to do,”  said Hawks quarterback Justin Martin.

Justin Martin carried the ball a total of 11 times during Friday night’s game, one carry of which led to a 46 yard-touchdown to the endzone in the fourth-quarter, marking Martin’s second straight game with at least one rushing touchdown.  — Running back Isiah Durate also continued to impress, as Durate ran for 69 yards, on 4 carries.

Birdville would go on to win the game, and improve to 2-0 on the season, beating the Richland Rebels by the final score of: 48-7.
