SURPRISE, ARIZ: Pitcher Yu Darvish threw live batting practice Saturday morning. The session lasted about 20 minutes.  Darvish threw 43 pitches to left-handed Beltre and Greg Milcat, with pitching coach Mike Maddux providing a watchful eye behind the mound.

Both players made some nice contact a few pitches, but Darvish also had Beltre and Milcat chasing some of his off-speed pitches. After the session, Darvish went to work on his conditioning outside with one of the coaches.

Manager Ron Washington was on another field working on base-running and did not see Darvish throw and didn’t have a chance to talk to Maddux this morning about Darvish’s session.

Darvish’s next start is Tuesday against the Cleveland Indians in Goodyear, where he’s slated to pitch three innings.
